Former President and peanut farmer Jimmy Carter (D) believes that Representative Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) remarks were racist. He also claims that the reason there is a backlash against much of Obama’s policies is because people do not believe a black man can lead the country. This is the ultimate in absurdity and liberal bull.

The truth is that Americans figured out in the late 70s that President Jimmy Carter was incompetent and was ruining the country. I can remember the long gas lines, the rationing of gasoline, 21% interest loans to buy a car, hyperinflation, the holding of American hostages for over a year in Iran, a bungled attempt to free them and a general belief that the country was doomed and had seen its greatest days.

The best thing about Carter is that because of his one incompetent term in office, Ronald Reagan was elected President. President Reagan then brought us back from the precipice. His belief that “America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere” is what saved us from Jimmy’s abyss. (It is also what converted me from being a Democrat to a Republican. Thanks Jimmy and Ronald Reagan.)

I don’t think that Jimmy has ever done anything right. He is ludicrous and does not even deserve the public spotlight to speak about Obama or Joe Wilson. Here is the video of his pathetic thoughts:

Americans are upset at the arrogance that the current White House occupant is showing to the wishes of the people. His race matters not. Now Jimmy, eat some peanuts and shut up. (Yes, Carter angers me more than any other Democrat. Maybe that’s racism?)

The vote was 240-179 with a few Democrats voting against the measure and few Republicans voting for it.

Everyone knows that it was a lack of decorum for Representative Joe Wilson to scream out, “You Lie!” He has apologized for this faux pas, but does it really merit the attention of the entire House of Representatives? Is there nothing else that our paid members of congress could be doing with their time?

It really infuriates me that they could waste time on this sort of nonsense. If we take their salaries and those of all other federal employees that were involved in this and factor in the time, I bet that the sum would be huge. This should not be tolerated by us taxpayers. We need to march on Washington and, more importantly, vote these cretins out.

It is sad that President Obama’s supporters always resort to using his race when they are losing an argument on its merits. Maureen Dowd, an otherwise intelligent and capable columnist, decided to do just that this last Saturday in her column for the New York Times. It baffles me that a 1999 Pulitzer Prize winner for commentary would bring up race as the real reason people are opposed to Obama’s Socialist agenda. Come on Maureen, that is just silly! Did Republicans ever claim that liberals were opposed to President Bush’s policies because they hated that he was a white man? I don’t think so.

When I look at President Obama, I do not see a Black man or African-American man, I see a misguided, intelligent and arrogant man who wants to pass legislation against the wishes of the electorate. If the American people were so concerned over his color, he would not have won the election. It is his policies that are making him lose support from everyone—not just conservatives.

Maureen likens Representative Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) outburst, “You Lie!” as more like, “You lie, boy!” She goes on to write:

I’ve been loath to admit that the shrieking lunacy of the summer — the frantic efforts to paint our first black president as the Other, a foreigner, socialist, fascist, Marxist, racist, Commie, Nazi; a cad who would snuff old people; a snake who would indoctrinate kids — had much to do with race.

We all know that both these statement are not true. Wilson was frustrated by the fact that there were real lies in Obama’s speech. I have already written here that the outburst violated decorum, but it certainly had noting to do with race. Maureen, you know better than that. Saying that in your column is as offensive to me as my headline for this post calling you a “silly white girl” is to you—something I know is not true.

Maureen Dowd, however, is not silly. She is far more dangerous than silly because she is calculating. She figures she can silence the majority that is opposed to Obama’s agenda by calling us racists. She claims in her column that “Democratic presidents typically have provoked a frothing response from paranoids.” Really? How about all the liberal conspiracy theorists that claimed that Bush and Cheney masterminded 9-11?

Maureen worships at the Obama altar. It is sad that an intelligent person could be so smitten by someone else. Near the end of her diatribe she writes, “It may be President Obama’s very air of elegance and erudition that raises hackles in some.” Oh, really? I think it is his disrespect for the wishes of the American people that raises hackles in many.

President Obama’s speech last night on health care reform was more of the same. It was devoid of specifics and did little to rally people or convince them that they need change in the way health care is handled in this country. President Obama once again proved that he is not a great orator like Lincoln or Reagan and does not have their persuasiveness. If he was trying to hit it out of the park last night with his speech, I would say he choked and did not even make it to first base.

The high point of the speech was provided by Representative Joe Wilson (D-SC) when he spontaneously yelled, “You lie!” after President Obama said that is was not true that Democrats wanted to provide health care benefits for illegal immigrants.

I thought it was disrespectful for Representative Wilson to address a president of this country in such a way, but could see how President Obama’s arrogant speech would get someone so frustrated that they could not hold back. Representative Wilson later apologized for the outburst and the apology was accepted.

People are frustrated at the incessant lies about of the health care plan. President Obama has said, for example, that the plan does not pay for abortions. In his speech he said, “no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions." New Jersey Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) in a speech for the Family Research Council Action, said that the plan would pay for abortions under the public plan and would subsidize them in the private plans. He said, “For a man who argues he wants to see a reduction of abortions, nothing could be further from the truth.”

The most eloquent portion of Obama’s speech called for action. He said, “The time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action.” This, however, was overshadowed by his saying that he would not waste time with those who are opposed to the plan for political reasons, an obvious reference to Republicans.

What President Obama is failing to recognize is that this is not a Republican vs. Democrat issue. It is a grass-root issue for the people of this country who are sick and tired of politicians throwing away their hard earned money on capricious and grandiose projects of all kinds. It is a movement of the people saying, “Enough is enough. We do not want the government owning our car companies, our banks and our doctors.”

President Obama also used the sympathy card. He deployed the late Senator Kennedy’s widow in the visitor’s section of the House of Representatives and said that Senator Kennedy had written him a letter in May saying that health care reform was a moral issue. This was the sort theatrics that many presidents of both parties have used in the past. It also has the same effect. It alienates those who oppose you and does nothing for your cause.

If Kennedy wrote that letter, I agree with him. This is a moral issue. We deserve to keep a health care system that provides the best care in the world and that saves lives on a daily basis. We do not need an iffy government program that no one has asked for. If Obama were serious about health care reform, he would be calling for tort reform and for lowering the requirements for Medicaid to cover indigents who have no health coverage. Those two changes would not drastically reshape our system in Obama’s image, but would certainly take care of the only two systemic problems with our existing system.

How about it President Obama? I know that lawyers support your party with huge donations, but if you really care about health care, what we need is tort reform. Will you have the audacity to pursue that? I hope so. I think it is a moral imperative.
