You would think that political discourse would be more intelligent and focused on the issues in the year 2008 than it has been in the past. In a throwback to the wild west, a man called Chad Michael Morrisette created a display in West Hollywood, California that shows a mannequin dressed like Governor Sarah Palin hung from the roof of his house (see picture).

The mannequin is dressed in a red business suit, a wig and glasses that mimic the Sarah Palin look completely. Chad Morrisette also is displaying a Senator John McCain effigy on the roof surrounded by flames and two elephants. Morrisette claims that the effigies are a Halloween display and mean nothing more than that.

Residents in the area are not so sure and have reported the display as a hate crime. I’m sure the secret service will take a look at this as well. I’m not sure about this, but I think that you cannot threaten the life of a candidate without consequence.

“It should be seen as art and it should be seen within the month of October. It’s time to be scary and spooky,” Morrisette said, then added, “I know if we had done it with Barack Obama, people would’ve probably thrown things through our windows. The image of a hanged black man is a lot more intense than the image of a hanged white woman–for our country–in the history of our country.”

In another incident that was reported as I was creating this post, federal authorities arrested two white supremacist who planned on killing 88 African American, decapitating 14 more African Americans and then going on a shooting spree to try to kill Senator Obama. What is wrong with people?

It has been reported that the numbers 88 and 14 have special significance for the white supremacist movement. The two men are Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tennessee, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of West Helena, Arkansas. The two were charged in Nashville, Tennessee with illegal possession of an unregistered, sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a gun dealer and making threats against a presidential candidate. You can read the Associated Press story here.

To all the nuts out there: this is an election and you are entitled to vote. You are not entitled to threaten or hurt anyone. This is not a third world country and many immigrants from those countries are here to avoid the violence that a change in leader precipitates back home. Knock it off knuckleheads.

I guess we can safely conclude that some Obama supporters are full fledged misogynist. I believe that we should all say no to this type of crudeness. Senator Obama please ask your fans be less crude and more educated in their support.

During the vice presidential debates, Senator Joseph Biden asserted that the role of the vice president was defined in Article I of the constitution. He also asserted that the role of the vice president was to "support the president of the United States of America, give that president his or her best judgment when sought, and as vice president, to preside over the Senate, only in a time when in fact there’s a tie vote. The Constitution is explicit."

Well so much for his experience and superior knowledge. The role of the vice president is actually defined in Article II of the constitution. The vice president is the president of the Senate and has the responsibility to interpret the rules of the Senate and to break tie votes. Since he is part of the executive branch, but also is president of the Senate, the one who was correct was Governor Palin when she said that the vice presidency is unique in that it has a part in two branches of government. Bravo Governor!

Let’s see what mistakes Senator Obama makes tonight and how the radical left defends those mistakes.

Yesterday’s vice presidential debate was as exciting as it could get. Senator Biden and Governor Palin were able to meet face to face and compete for votes unfiltered by any show or interviewer. Senator Biden presented facts and figures and proved that he has knowledge of the minutiae of politics. Governor Palin held her own on facts and figures, but instead of overwhelming the viewer with these instead appealed to the voter’s hearts and by connection, their minds.

By anyone’s estimation, Governor Palin won the debate and garnered new support for the McCain-Palin ticket. This should come as no surprise to anyone. Senator McCain would not have picked someone who was incompetent or weak. This is a strong, intelligent woman who knows how to connect with the American people. She is the real thing and has an unbelievable future ahead of her.

Biden attempted to deride McCain’s plan to allow drilling by saying that his only solution to the energy issue is to “Drill, drill, drill.” When Palin’s turn came up she corrected him and said that the correct chant is, “Drill, baby, drill.” She smiled and the audience was hers. She might as well have said, “We’re going to win, baby, win!”

Senator Biden repeatedly tried to link Senator McCain to George Bush. He, like Senator Obama, appears to be running against Bush instead of McCain. On one of Biden’s attempts to say that Bush did this or that, Governor Palin cleverly responded, “Say it ain’t so, Joe… There you go again talking about the past.” After that clever line, she went on to explain that the campaigns should be discussing the future and what could be done for the American public going forward.

If there was one message that Governor Palin drove home is that she and McCain are mavericks and that they will inject new ideas into Washington. She also stressed that she has experienced the same things that all American’s have including difficulty paying insurance bills and worrying about paying college tuition.

She proved that she was witty, clever, smart and articulate. Now we need Senator McCain to follow this strike against the Obama-Biden ticket with two more strikes in the next two presidential debates. If he can do that, the Obama-Biden ticket will be out and we the American people will be better off for it. Come on Senator McCain! Win, baby, win!

One way to judge a presidential candidate is by the decisions that he makes. When Senator Obama became the presumptive nominee for the Democrat party, the first decision he had to make was who would be his running mate. The obvious and most intelligent choice would have been Hillary Clinton. She was strong in states where he was weak and she appealed to women nationally. Her choice would have made it practically impossible for Senator McCain to have a chance at winning the presidency.

Senator Obama’s decision is now history. For the vice presidential slot, he picked someone who was not threatening to him. He picked Senator Biden–someone who had run for president many times and garnered perhaps three votes (from family members). This decision shows more about Obama’s lack of leadership than anything else in his background. He is a weak leader who makes poor decisions. He did not want a strong woman or anyone else who could challenge his status as media darling.

I’m not saying that I would have wanted Senator Obama to pick Hillary. I do not like her politics or her power grab in New York. I am simply saying that by not selecting her, Obama showed how weak he is. He showed his fear of the Clintons. He also did not want someone who could overshadow him. The right decision for him would have been to pick the person that could clinch him the presidency. That person was, obviously, Senator Hillary Clinton.

Senator McCain has done the exact opposite. He has consistently taken chances and he picked someone who could bring new vigor to his campaign. He picked an unknown woman who is spirited, strong and who has convictions in her beliefs. Picking Sarah Palin brought him closer to winning the presidency. She electrified the Republican party and made even liberal women pay attention to a campaign that was a sleeper before her selection.

Sarah Palin is the popular Governor of Alaska. She has run campaigns and won. She has apportioned budgets and made major decisions. She is a real person with a real family and she scares liberal Democrats and their supporters. They should be scared. Senator McCain and Governor Palin are a winning combination. Once McCain-Palin win in November, Vice President Palin will be positioned to run for president in the future and it will be the Republican party that has the first female president. That will be history and Senator McCain’s decision to pick Governor Palin will be seen as brilliant and presidential. Senator Obama’s fateful decision will also be seen for what it is: a weak and fearful decision from someone who talked a good game and didn’t deliver.
