The following video shows one nut case that happens to have a television show on the very fair and balanced MSNBC (I’m am oozing sarcasm, of course.):

It is time that MSNBC gave psychological exams to people that it puts on the air. The ownership at MSNBC should also examine why someone is allowed to call a Senator-elect a tea-bagger among other offensive remarks. It is unprofessional and uncalled for.

Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime, a new book about the 2008 presidential campaign is creating turmoil in the Democrat party. Much of the world has already heard about Senator Harry Reid’s (D-NV) remarks about “negro dialect” but far fewer have heard about President Clinton’s remarks. According to the book, President Clinton made disparaging remarks about then Senator Obama (D-IL) when discussing him with the late Senator Kennedy (D-MA). The book says that

Clinton told Kennedy that he should not support Obama because “a few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.” This supposedly so angered Senator Kennedy that he decided to support Obama.

As you might imagine, this book is full of interesting, behind the scenes facts about the 2008 election and the men and women who participated in it. It will also clearly show how deceitful the Democrat party really is.

Representative Griffith is an oncologist and one of the few physicians with a real voice in the process. His opinion is more relevant because he has experienced the health care system as a practicing doctor before running for office. He is a freshman congressman so he has no favors to repay from a career in politics. It also means that his experience is current and not dated.

He said on Tuesday that he could “no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country.” I wish more congressmen would become reasonable like Representative Griffith. He seems to have aligned himself with the majority of the country.

This is bad legislation that is horrible for the country and will lead to a financial catastrophe for all.

Besides being an admitted Communist, Van Jones was also a co-founder of Color of Change—a radical organization. This is the same left-wing group that went after Glen Beck’s show by mounting a campaign asking advertisers to back out of the show. I guess Beck wins this battle by a knockout.

Another fascinating aspect of the Van Jones story is that prior to the actual resignation, it received no coverage in newspapers like the New York Times. I believe that this is the reason that newspapers are becoming obsolete. What happened to an independent press? Why is it that broadcast media is showing more integrity than newspapers? When I was a young man, I was taught that newspapers were more independent and reliable than broadcast media because they were not licensed by the FCC. This may have been true at some point in time, but the newspapers are now just panderers to the liberal world view.

The New York Times is so pathetic that it described the resignation as “a victory for Republicans and the Obama administration’s conservative critics” in the first sentence of its first Van Jones story on September 6th. I believe it is a victory “for government of the people, by the people, for the people.” Van Jones was appointed to his position and was not vetted by Congress or by any other government agency. To its credit, the New York Times did describe Van Jones past associations and the fact that Glen Beck led the charge against him. It is too bad, that it was not the New York Times that pursued Van Jones history and revealed it as unacceptable. That is what an independent press should be doing. So in this case, Beck scores one and Obama, the New York Times and Color of Change lose one. If you are Obama and are counting votes perhaps many more than one.

The proposed law is called the Cybersecurity Act of 2009. It was originally written by Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV (D – WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and introduced by him and Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R – ME). A watered down summary of the intent of the bill can be read here.

The relevant part of the complete bill is quoted here;

SEC. 201. CYBERSECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY.

The President—

(1) within 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, shall develop and implement a comprehensive national cybersecurity strategy, which shall include—

(A) a long-term vision of the Nation’s cybersecurity future; and
(B) a plan that encompasses all aspects of national security, including the participation of the private sector, including critical infrastructure operators and managers;

(2) in the event of an immediate threat to strategic national interests involving compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network—

(A) may declare a cybersecurity emergency; and
(B) may, if the President finds it necessary for the national defense and security, and in coordination with relevant industry sectors, direct the national response to the cyber threat and the timely restoration of the affected critical infrastructure information system or network;

(3) shall, in coordination with various critical infrastructure industry sectors, develop detailed cyber emergency response and restoration plans for each critical infrastructure industry sector;

(4) shall, through the appropriate department or agency, review critical functions that would be needed after a cybersecurity attack and develop a strategy for the acquisition, storage, and periodic replacement of equipment to support those functions;

(5) shall direct the periodic mapping of Federal Government and United States critical infrastructure information systems or networks, and shall develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of the mapping process;

(6) shall, through the Office of Science and Technology Policy, direct an annual review of all Federal cyber technology research and development investments; 

(7) may delegate original classification authority to the appropriate Federal official for the purposes of improving the Nation’s cybersecurity posture;

(8) shall, through the appropriate department or agency, promulgate rules for Federal professional responsibilities regarding cybersecurity, and shall provide to the Congress an annual report on Federal agency compliance with those rules;

(9) shall withhold additional compensation, direct corrective action for Federal personnel, or terminate a Federal contract in violation of Federal rules, and shall report any such action to the Congress in an unclassified format within 48 hours after taking any such action; and 

(10) shall notify the Congress within 48 hours after providing a cyber-related certification of legality to a United States person.

The bill’s purpose is to protect us against an Internet attack from a foreign country or from terrorist, but is written so broadly that the President could assert control over this vital communications resource and disable communication and dissent in the country. It is another example of the government trying to take over our capitalist economy.

If you are as afraid of this bill as I am, contact your representatives and make sure that they know your position. We need to keep America free.

state health commissions. This would be used to determine if you are eligible for government subsidies. Currently, IRS data is not shared with other government agencies because of privacy concerns.

Here is the exact verbiage from H.R. 3200:

SEC. 245. INCOME DETERMINATIONS.

(a) IN GENERAL.—In applying this subtitle for an affordability credit for an individual for a plan year, the individual’s income shall be the income (as defined in section 242(c)) for the individual for the most recent taxable year (as determined in accordance with rules of the Commissioner). The Federal poverty level applied shall be such level in effect as of the date of the application.

(b) PROGRAM INTEGRITY; INCOME VERIFICATION PROCEDURES.—

(1) PROGRAM INTEGRITY.—The Commissioner shall take such steps as may be appropriate to en sure the accuracy of determinations and redeterminations under this subtitle.

(2) INCOME VERIFICATION.—

(A) IN GENERAL.—Upon an initial application of an individual for an affordability credit under this subtitle (or in applying section 242(b)) or upon an application for a change in the affordability credit based upon a significant change in family income described in subparagraph (A)—

(i) the Commissioner shall request from the Secretary of the Treasury the disclosure to the Commissioner of such information as may be permitted to verify the information contained in such application; and

(ii) the Commissioner shall use the information so disclosed to verify such information.

(B) ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURES.—The Commissioner shall establish procedures for the verification of income for purposes of this subtitle if no income tax return is available for the most recent completed tax year.

The Privacy Act that is currently the law of the land prevents government agencies from sharing data and requires that agencies obtain data directly from the people. This provision of Obamacare would circumvent or defy the Privacy Act and allow sharing between the IRS and new health care bureaucracies. I don’t think that this is something anyone wants. We are going down a path that is going to lead to government control of everything we do. It could be the beginning of a all-knowing totalitarian state like the planet has never seen before.

We must all oppose this plan and act now before it is too late. Get involved, call your representatives, send letters and e-mails, attend town hall meetings and write for your local papers. Maybe “we the people” can win this one.

The Associated Press reported today that a total of 33 advertisers had stopped advertising on the Beck show and some have stopped advertising on the Fox News network altogether. Although I disapprove of the actions of these advertisers, I applaud ColorOfChange.org for mounting a successful campaign against something that they felt strongly about.

Now it is time for all lovers of freedom of speech and conservative views to mount a campaign to counter this attack on free speech and thought. We must support advertisers that continue to appear on the Beck show and stop supporting those that pulled their ads.

Freedom of speech can be lost. Speak out before it happens to you.

Now that a Democrat is governor, they want the law changed again. This is the problem with Democrats. They talk a good game about fairness in government, politics and the private sector, but what they deliver is blatant lack of fairness and transparency. Every decade or so, they fool enough of the electorate into voting them into power and then we all have to suffer their inequity.

I think that the law should stand as is. The current law, passed by Democrats to prevent a Republican from gaining a senate seat should be inflicted on them as well. It requires a special election between 145 to 160 days after a vacancy of a United States Senate seat. There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting the people of Massachusetts decide who they want to represent them. If they vote another Democrat into the office, so be it.

The fact that Kennedy wants the law changed shows that the Democrats know that the electorate is angry about having health care reform forced on them. They are afraid of losing a senate seat when that special election takes place. Let’s make sure that we the people are heard. Contact your representatives in the state legislature in Massachusetts and make sure that they do not change the law to be self-serving once again. Tell them you want fairness or they will be voted out during the next election cycle.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R – CA) issued a statement on his mother-in-law’s passing:

I am immensely saddened by the passing of my mother-in-law, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

Eunice was the light of our family. She meant so much, not only to us, but to our country and to the world. She was a pioneer who worked tirelessly for social and scientific advances that have changed the lives of millions of developmentally disabled people all over the world.

Inspired by her faith in God and her love of her sister, Rosemary, she was on a life-long mission to expand opportunities for those with intellectual challenges and to prove that they are capable of great achievements.

Apart from her family, her greatest legacy is the Special Olympics, which started as a summer camp in her backyard in 1962, and has grown into a global movement and organization that has transformed the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

Eunice was the devoted mother of five children, including my dear wife, Maria. My mother-in-law changed my life by raising such a fantastic daughter, and by putting me on the path to service, starting with drafting me as a coach for the Special Olympics. I will miss her every day, but I know her spirit endures through her amazing children and grandchildren, and through the many lives she changed.
