Scott Brown 52 vs. Martha Coakley 47

The world is already reacting to the stunning upset by Senator Scott Brown (R-MA). Brown is now the 41st Republican vote in the Senate. This victory will temper the Democrats’ arrogance, mandates, taxation and spending. Even our currency is reacting positively to this victory. Reuters reported today that the United States dollar rallied against the euro with the euro hitting a new low.

According to the Reuters report, “investors reckoned the Massachusetts election of a Republican to the U.S. Senate was dollar positive as it might see the government rein in spending and reduce the fiscal deficit.” (You can read it here.) Several analysts and web sites are also predicting a stock market rally after Brown’s win. We will see if they were correct in a couple of hours today.

Regardless of the immediate impact on the dollar and the stock market, this victory is great for America. The Democrats needed a loud reminder of who is in charge—the American voter. This election should temper the Democrats’ desire to convert the United States into a secular-socialist country. That is not what so many have died building and defending. Maybe Obama will start reading some of Ronald Reagan’s speeches and quotes. Here is a good one for him: “We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to stand for something – for liberty and freedom and fairness.  And these are things worth fighting for, worth devoting our lives to.”

Perhaps this loss by the Democrats will require them to reexamine their goals, cynicism and negative view of the majority of the voters in this country. Maybe they should be reminded of what the United States really is by this Reagan quote: “The history of our civilization, the great advances that made it possible, is not a story of cynics or doom criers.  It is a gallant chronicle of the optimists, the determined people, men and women, who dreamed great dreams and dared to try whatever it took to make them come true.”

It is a new day for this country. Thank you Senator Scott Brown (R-MA).

There is nothing that scares a politician more than the possibility of losing in an upcoming election and having to find a real, less cushy job. Hopefully, this will scare enough of the incumbents to realize that they are at the mercy of fed up voters who want their elected officials to represent, not impose!!
